INTRODUCTION
Fruitfulness simply means to
multiply.
“And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and
multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the
fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that
moveth upon the earth.” Genesis 1:26-28.
God created man. He released a part of Himself into man by
breathing into him and man became a living being. God then commissioned man to:
“Be fruitful and multiply.” over the fowl of the air, and over
every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” Genesis 1:26.
God has always been very
conscious of this purpose for which He created man which is to be fruitful and
multiply. Before, He wiped out the world
because of the wickedness of the people, He had this in mind again. He asked Noah to ensure that man would
continue to be fruitful and multiply by putting every living thing into the ark. We can see this from the following scripture:
“Bring forth with thee every living thing that is with thee, of
all flesh, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of every creeping thing that
creepeth upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be
fruitful, and multiply upon the earth.” Genesis 8:17.
God commissioned Noah and
the seven people that were with him after flood with the same commandment say:
“And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be
fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.” Genesis 9:1.
“And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in
the earth, and multiply therein.” Genesis 9:7.
In every generation after
that, this commission like a baton was passed on to the next generation. Below
we see Isaac passing the baton to his son Jacob’s generation that would succeed
him:
“And God
Almighty bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, that thou
mayest be a multitude of people; And give thee the blessing of Abraham, to
thee, and to thy seed with thee; that thou mayest inherit the land wherein thou
art a stranger, which God gave unto Abraham.” Genesis 28:3-4.
Never once did God pass up
the opportunity to hammer this commission home. When God confirmed the covenant
that He had with Abraham with his grandson Jacob, He again reminded him of this
commission:
“And God said
unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but
Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel. And God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a
nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of
thy loins; And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to thee I will give
it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land.” Genesis 35:10-12.
This
is a commandment just like when God said, “Let there be….,” and various things
that He commanded to come into being such as light, came into being. It should therefore not be taken
lightly. God expects fruitfulness from
us because He has already wired us for it; made provision for it; and equipped
for it. Genesis 1:26-28, Genesis 9:1-27.
As a
result, God expects man to be fruitful and to multiply. We are not just to bear fruits but to bear
good fruit and that in abundance. This is because He has already provided for
this and has enabled man to do just that: to carry out the mandate of
multiplication.
WHAT IS FRUITFULNESS?
Fruitful is the following:
1. Fruitfulness is to have
outstanding results in one’s assignment or chosen career.
2. Fruitfulness is having
excellent results where others are failing.
3. Fruitfulness is to be
highly favored where others are struggling.
4. Fruitfulness is making
progress where others are retrogressing or stagnant.
5. Fruitfulness is being a
vessel of honor rather than a vessel unto dishonor.
TYPES OF FRUITFULNESS
Fruitfulness is not
restricted just to procreation. God expects His children to be fruitful in
every area of life. The various types of fruitfulness including:
1.
Physical Fruitfulness
God expects us to be
fruitful in our bodies. Exodus 23:25-26.
“Thou shalt
be blessed above all people: there shall not be male or female barren among
you, or among your cattle.” Deuteronomy 7:14.
This is a prophetic word
of God spoken over the lives of His children. It carries the same creative power
and weight as “Let there be light,”
which He spoke in Genesis 1:3.
2.
Fruitfulness in our
spiritual lives
God expects fruitfulness
in our spiritual lives. Jesus is the first born of many children of God. He did
this by laying down His life. He was the seed that was to die so that other
plants like you and me could spring up.
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn
of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it
bringeth forth much fruit.” John 12:24.
3.
Fruitfulness in ideas
God expects us to be
fruitful in ideas because we have access to the wisdom of God. We are to be
fruitful mentally even more so as we have access to the Holy
Spirit. As children of God
we should transform the world like Jesus and His early apostles did. To do this,
new and improved Holy Ghost vomited strategies should be flowing out through
us. This was what impressed Pharaoh about Joseph that made him to hire him as
Prime Minister of Egypt instantaneously. Genesis
41:33-46.
4.
Fruitfulness in Finances
Matthew 25:14-30.
God expects us to be
fruitful in our finances. The least fruit that we should bear from our money should
be the prevailing interest rate. Matthew
25:27.
WHY FRUITFULNESS?
1. God wants man to produce after his own kind to populate the
world
God created man in His own
image. Genesis 1:27, Genesis 5:3. Therefore, He expects man to do what he sees
Him, God doing, which is to create after his own kind. God Himself multiplied
by producing man in His own image. So He
expects us to do the same, by creating others of our own kind in our own image.
2. Fruitfulness is the foundation of the dominion mandate
“And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and
multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the
fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that
moveth upon the earth.” Genesis 1:26-28.
God created other living
things before He created man and gave them the power to be fruitful and to multiply
after their own kind. He stopped there and never gave them power to exercise
dominion.
” And God
created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters
brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his
kind: and God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and
multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.”
Genesis 1:21-22.
With man, though, God went one step further
and empowered man to dominate and rule over all the other living things that He
created. In doing this, man has to follow a progression. First you have to be
fruitful. Next, you have to multiply and replenish. Then finally based on success
in these first three areas, you can then exercise dominion over all other
living things and subdue them.
“And God said,
Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion
over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle,
and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the
earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him;
male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them,
Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have
dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every
living thing that moveth upon the earth.” Genesis 1:26-28.
If they over populate you,
that will be difficult as they may also overpower you. Even in giving the Israelites the mandate to
take possession of the Land of Canaan, God’s Promised Land for them, God took
this into consideration:
“I will not drive them out from before thee in one year; lest the
land become desolate, and the beast of the field multiply against thee.” Exodus
23:29.
3. Fruitfulness is a covenant right of the children of God
It is one of God’s covenants
with Abraham that we tap into through Christ Jesus as born again Christians. Galatians 3:13-14. He promised to make
us “Exceedingly fruitful,” as we can see from the following scripture:
“And when
Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto
him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect. And I will
make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly. And
Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying, As for me, behold, my
covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations. Neither
shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a
father of many nations have I made thee. And I will make thee exceeding
fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.” Genesis
17:1-6.
KEYS TO FRUITFULNESS
1.
Total dependence on the God
Always remember that with God nothing shall be impossible. Luke
1:37. God is the one that initiated fruitfulness and put the desire for it
in all living things. Know that He plays a prominent role in the fruitfulness
of His children. Not only that, He has made provision for the fruitfulness of
His children hence we have the scripture:
“There shall nothing cast their young, nor be
barren, in thy land: the number of thy days I will fulfil.” Exodus 23:26.
“Thou shalt
be blessed above all people: there shall not be male or female barren among
you, or among your cattle.” Deuteronomy 7:14.
2. Ask God
to help you
Ask for the help of the Holy Spirit. Engage Him in prayer and meditation. The Holy
Ghost has access to everything that you could possibly need. You cannot go far in anything without His
help and involvement. John 15:5. He
gives you instructions, ideas, and strategies which you act on and bear good
fruits. The result is sweatless victories, triumphs, breakthroughs and testimonies.
3. Let the
word of God abide richly in you
Then you can ask God for anything and He will give it to you. John 15:5. Confess over your life,
scriptures on fruitfulness including those on God’s mandate to be fruitful and
on none being barren among the children of God.
4. Have faith
in God
When you have faith in God, nothing is impossible to you and
that includes fruitfulness.
“And Jesus
said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have
faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence
to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto
you.” Matthew 17:20.
5.
Faithfulness is required
For God to multiply you, you have to be faithful in managing
what He has already committed into your hands. Therefore, you may not be
fruitful without faithfulness. Every
money that comes into our hand contains a seed.
We should not eat the seed portion of our money or we will have no harvest.
Always sow the seed. And you cannot sow
the seed in your own field either. It
was to be sown elsewhere. In the field of those that that have oversight over
your life; give you counsel; feed you spiritually, and so on.
6. Righteousness
The Bible says that the righteous shall fruitfulness and bear
fruit even in old age. Psalm 92:12-14.
These manifest as carnality hence the Bible clearly tells us that where there
is strive and division, there is every evil work. and they will hinder you from bearing good
fruit in life. In our homes, church, businesses, organizations, we must avoid
anything that will feed strive and division. These include envy, anger, and unhealthy comparison.
7. Holiness
(Hebrews 12:14)
Without holiness no man shall see God. If you cannot see God,
then there will be no fruitfulness or breakthroughs.
8. Avoid strife and division (James 3:16).
They hinder fruitfulness. These manifest as carnality hence the
Bible clearly tells us that where there is strive and division, there is every
evil work. and they will hinder you from
bearing good fruit in life. In our homes, church, businesses, organizations, we
must avoid anything that will feed strive and division. This includes envy,
anger, unhealthy comparison, and provocation. We should feed our spirit man and
kill the flesh daily. Let us manifest the fruits of the spirit instead
including peace, love, joy and goodness.
